Whether you’re spending a lot of time with your family these days or missing those who live far away, the pandemic has highlighted the joys and challenges of domestic life. What better time to gather and learn about families on the other side of the world. This session will look at modern Canadian history through the lives of some of its most famous families – historical and fictional – including the Trudeaus and the beloved cast from Kim’s Convenience. This hour of history will include games and film clips—fun for all ages as we explore the lives and meanings of Canadian families past and present.
Esther Rzeplinski is an educator and historian who hails from Vancouver, Canada. She wrote her Master’s thesis on letters that children wrote to Canadian prime minister Pierre Trudeau and has since worked for the provincial government in parliamentary education and economic development. She herself comes from a family of six and enjoys spending time with loved ones.
